The World Series of Poker kicks off April 15, 2003, and runs until May 23rd. Throughout the event, Poker-King.com will be providing full coverage, as well as posting some flashback articles from last years World Series of Poker. The event is taking place at Binion's Horseshoe Hotel & Casino.
Now, for a little information on the event. The first prize this year is expected to be over $2 million, making this one of the biggest payoffs in sports and entertainment. As you can probably guess, because of the size of the prize, the field will be very crowded. Amateur and professional poker players alike will be attempting to join the ranks of such greats as Johnny Chan, Stu Ungar and Doyle Brunson.
The World Series of Poker will be televised nationally, like in previous years. You can watch last year's World Series on ESPN2.
The five previous champions are: Scotty Nguyen (1998), Noel Furlong (1999), Chris Fergusen (2000), Carlos Mortensen (2001), and Robert Varkonyi (2002).
There will be a variety of events during the World Series, including a Senior's No Limit Hold' Em challenge, a media charity no limit Hold' Em game, and the World Championship Event, Texas Hold 'Em with a $10,000 buy-in.
As the action progresses through mid May, Poker-King will be providing more updates. Sharpen your game and get ready for the 2004 World Series of Poker by practising at Party Poker.
