Preliminary 2009 World Championship of Online Poker Schedule Released
Published on June 16th, 2009 11:39 pm ESTThe "tentative" schedule for the 2009 Pokerstars WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) was released on Pokerstarsblog.com (link below) earlier today.
According to the posting, Pokerstars is "still working" on the schedule. They have released the preliminary schedule in order to garner some feedback from their customers.
You can see the entire "tentative" schedule by clicking on the link at the bottom of this article. Here are the main things that jump out at me about this schedule:
-$40 million dollars in total guarantees (compared to $30 million dollars in 2008)
-a total of 42 events (compared to 33 last year)
-the 2009 WCOOP will begin on September 3rd and end on September 20th
-there are at least two tournaments each and every day of the event
-there are THREE events taking place in one day on six separate days of the event
-the main event will have a $10 million dollar guarantee
-there is a FL Badugi event that is scheduled to take place on September 8th
-there are three 2-day NLHE events (two with $3 million dollar guarantees, as well as the main event)
-there is a $25,500 Heads-Up High Rollers NLHE tournament scheduled for September 13th
-there is a $215 NLHE event with "big antes" scheduled for September 16th
Those are the interesting items that jumped out at me.
The $40 million dollars in total guarantees can hardly be surprising given the continued growth of Pokerstars over the past couple of years.
Not only that, but the WCOOP is, without a doubt, the biggest online tournament series that exists today, and it's not even close.
If you have any feedback about the schedule, Pokerstars is inviting you to contact them at wcoop@pokerstars.com.
