$25,000 Heads-Up Championship on Full Tilt Poker Begins Saturday Afternoon
Published on May 22nd, 2009 6:26 pm ESTThe second edition of the $25k NLHE Heads-Up Championship on Full Tilt Poker will be taking place this weekend.
Defending champion David Singer is currently registered to play in this year's event, as is Emil "whitelime" Patel, who was the runner-up in the 2008 event.
The field, as is to be expected, is looking to be stacked with formidable poker talent.
There are currently 39 entrants for the event, which gets underway on Saturday afternoon. I would expect close to 64 entrants by the time that registration closes on Saturday.
Full Tilt Poker changed the rules for this year's event, and will be allowing first-round byes. This means that nobody will be shut out of this year's event.
Some of the top players in the world have already registered for the event, including Phil Ivey, Erick Lindgren, Tom Dwan and Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond. I would expect names such as Patrik Antonius and David Benyamine to register over the next 24 hours.
Some of the other very recognizable names who have already entered include the likes of Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies, Lukas "__FullFlush1__" Schwartz, Gus Hansen, Tony G and David "The Dragon" Pham.
Some of the names who will be recognizable to those who rail cash games on Full Tilt Poker include "pr1nnyraid", "Zugwat", "luvtheWNBA" and "mastrblastr".
There will also be a number of players in this event who earned their entries through satellites and aren't allowed to unregister. They will have the daunting task of trying to navigate their way through a field that is loaded with top-notch talent.
The event will get underway on Saturday afternoon and play down to the final four. The tournament will then be paused, with a champion being crowned sometime on Sunday evening. The champion will receive $500k+, depending on how many people end up registering.
We'll be covering both days of this event, so stay tuned to this site for updates.
