full tilt poker - 25k heads-up world championship turnament - logoMany of the best poker players in the world will be squaring off against each other next weekend as the $25,000 Heads-Up Championship returns to Full Tilt Poker.

The event will begin on Saturday, May 23rd, and will conclude on Sunday the 24th.

The tournament will be capped at 128 players.

This year's heads-up tournament will feature first-round byes if the tournament starts without a perfect number of players (32, 64, 128, etc). I might be wrong, but I believe that this is the first time that Full Tilt has had first-round byes in this tournament.

Online qualifiers for the event will begin this Sunday (May 17th). Any player who wins an entry for the event through a qualifier will not be allowed to unregister.

The tournament will begin at 15:00 ET on Saturday, May 23rd, and play down to the final four.

The action will resume on Sunday at 16:00 ET. The final two rounds of the event will then be played, and a champion will be crowned.

You can expect many of the top poker names in the world to compete in this tournament. I would expect players such as Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Tom Dwan and David Benyamine to all play next weekend.

The winner of last year's event was David Singer, who managed to outlast Emil "whitelime" Patel to take down the $560,000 first place prize.

I would expect a pretty strong turnout for this event due to its close proximity to the World Series of Poker. Many players will be looking to fine-tune their games against the best in the world in advance of the $40k NLHE tournament that kicks off the World Series of Poker next week.
