Spring Tournament Series Coming to Pokerstars in 2009
Published on December 7th, 2008 9:47 pm ESTDetails are hard to come by at this point, but one thing is for sure - Pokerstars is planning on hosting a tournament series this spring.
The name of the event isn't even solidified at this point - representatives from Pokerstars indicate that the current working title is the SCOOP, or the "Spring Championship of Online Poker". This name, they say, is subject to change.
It appears as though the spring tournament will be a scaled down version of the WCOOP.
The only thing that seems to be for certain at this point is that the buy-in for the "SCOOP" main event will be $1,575. Everything else is still up in the air at this point - representatives from Pokerstars say that a tournament schedule is still being finalized. It is unknown, at this time, how long the tournament series will last, how many events there will be, etc.
A scaled down version of the WCOOP has been rumored for a while now. I don't think that Pokerstars is interested in having another event the size of the WCOOP, as they want to preserve the prestige of this event.
We'll post more details about the proposed spring event as soon as they are released.
