The final event at the WSOP 2004 is slated to begin in approximately 20 hours. The number of entrants for this year's event is mind-boggling, with 2200 people confirmed for the event on Saturday.
Due to the enormous number of competitors, the prize pool is massive as well. There is estimated to be a total prize pool of 41 million dollars for this years event, almost double the 22 million dollars of the 2003 event. The first place winner is expected to walk away with between 4.5 to 5 million dollars in total prize money. The top 4 finishers will all receive at least a million dollars, and the top 180 finishers will all receive at least $10,000.
Included in the 2200 entrants will be a couple of well known names. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have been entered this year's WSOP. Both of these players are there to win, and both are decent players.
There are so many interesting story lines in this year's tournament. Will another Internet qualifier win this year? Will Moneymaker repeat? Will the pros finally take one after a couple of years out of the winner's circle? How will Affleck and Damon do?
ESPN is showing a number of the preliminary events on TV starting June 8th, with the main event set to start airing in September.
Poker King will have daily coverage of the final event, leading up to the final day on May 28th. Stay tuned for up to date results of the big show.
