National Heads-Up Poker Championship - LogoDavid Singer outlasted 63 other players in an extremely competitive field to take down the first ever $25k Heads-Up Championship on Full Tilt Poker. Singer topped Emil "Whitelime" Patel in the finals to take down the $560k first place prize. Patel received $320k for finishing in second place.

This is Singer's second largest cash ever. He received one million dollars for taking down the $10k No Limit Hold'em Championship at the Caesars Palace Classic in October of 2007.

The tournament had been paused on Saturday evening with four players remaining: Andy Bloch, Brian Hastings, David Singer and Emil Patel. Patel took on Andy Bloch in one of the semi-final matches, and Brian Hastings squared off against David Singer in the other. All four players were guaranteed at least $168k for making it to the semi-finals.

Our pick to win, Brian Hastings, was eliminated by David Singer after getting all of his chips in the middle, pre-flop, holding pocket nines. Singer called the massive all-in of Hastings holding pocket fives. The flop brought the five of hearts, and Hastings wasn't able to improve on the turn or the river. Singer had sucked out and was heading to the finals.

In the end, it was Patel squaring off against David Singer in the finals. The end came for Patel when he pushed all-in over top of a pre-flop raise from Singer, and Singer called after a bit of deliberation. Before the hand started, Patel had 59,700 in chips, and David Singer had 260,300. Singer showed pocket eights, and Patel showed 10/3 offsuit. The board brought no help to Patel, and he was eliminated in second place, receiving $320k for his efforts.

Patel beat an impressive array of talent to make it to the finals. His victims included: Phil Ivey, Taylor Caby, "Nordberg", "Ansky451" and Andy Bloch. David Singer defeated "OMGClayAiken", Brandon Adams, "Buck99", "Mastrblastr", Brian Hastings and Patel en route to the championship.

The event received a tremendous amount of coverage online, which should mean that Full Tilt will make the tournament an annual one. The tournament attracted some of the best poker talent in the world, including Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Gus Hansen and Howard Lederer.

Congratulations to David Singer for winning the first ever $25k Heads-Up Championship on Full Tilt Poker.
