If you are wondering why our post frequency is down slightly as of late, there is a good reason why. There isn't much happening in the world of poker right now. There are no big scandals raging at the moment (although, there could be one around the corner when Ultimatebet completes their investigation of NioNio), and nothing much else is going on in the world of poker at the moment.
That's the bad news. The good news is that this is invariably the slow time of the year for the world of poker, and that the action will start to pick up very shortly. The World Series of Poker begins on May 31st and this will kickstart the "high" season for poker, which lasts until the beginning of January. So hang in there and endure the somewhat boring news for the next month and a half or so. Of course, if something happens, we'll cover it.
For now, here are your newsworthy items for today:
1. Day 1A of EPT San Remo in the books. Day 1A of the San Remo EPT is in the books and Ville Nyman is your chipleader. Nyman currently has a stack of around 105k chips, which is about 5k better than his closest competitor, Hakan Sahl. There are several notables that did well on Day 1A, including:
Isaac "WestmenloAA" Baron - 78k
Markus Golser - 48k
Luca Pagano - 41k
Roland De Wolfe - 21k
Dario Minieri - 17.5k
The notable bustouts from Day 1A include:
-Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi
-Patrik Antonius
-Katja Thater
Day 1B gets underway in a few hours and will include more "name" players such as Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari.
2. "Jennicide". As mentioned on the Pokerkingblog, Jennifer "Jennicide" Leigh's Playboy feature hit the public today.
As mentioned, go out and buy the issue instead of just viewing it for free on the Internet. At the very least, it can't hurt to have a major publication talking about poker and if this issue sells well, then it will bring more inexperienced players to the tables. That can never hurt. If you really want to view it for free then you had better act fast, as Playboy is actively searching for sites that are hosting the scanned pictorial and forcing them to take it down. Just buy it!
3. April Cash Games. April is off to a quick start in the high stakes cash games on Full Tilt Poker. "Ziigmund" had a big day on Tuesday, earning just under $260k in the high stakes PLO and No Limit Hold'em cash games on Full Tilt Poker. This is after a terrible March that saw him drop around one million dollars. One thing that you can always expect from "Ziigmund" is some extreme variance, as that is just the style that he enjoys playing. Don't be surprised to see him have a big month in April.
"durrrr" made just under $160k on the day while "extacymoney", "tsarrast" and "OMGClayAiken" all had strong days as well. "trex313" and "FakeSky" were the big losers on the day, with both dropping over $100k on the session.
4. Profiles Section. We have launched a new section that you can find here. We are hoping to add one new player profile every 1-2 days, and hopefully give you at least one piece of information that you might not have known about your favorite players. So far we have covered Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and David "The Dragon" Pham. Over the next couple of days, we'll be adding profiles on Phil Ivey, Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad and Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi. We are looking to cover a mixture of "live" and "online" pros, young and old.
That's it for now..
