Hellmuth Will Look To Avenge His Only "High Stakes Duel" Loss
Published on January 14th, 2022 2:35 pm ESTPhil Hellmuth had been undefeated on "High Stakes Duel", enjoyed a 7-0 run that included three straight victories over Antonio Esfandiari, three straight victories over Daniel Negreanu and a single victory over Nick Wright (Wright declined the $100,000 rematch).
It seemed as though Hellmuth might retire from "High Stakes Duel" undefeated.
That was until a surprise opponent, Tom Dwan, offered to step in for Wright and take Hellmuth on in a $100,000/person heads-up match.
Hellmuth and Dwan had a great deal of history, though they had never settled their differences on the felt.
-
Dwan, who spends most of his time playing in super high-stakes cash games in Macau, ended up halting Hellmuth's undefeated streak.
After the match, Hellmuth seemed non-committal about activating his rematch clause, and it seemed as though Dwan would retain his 1-0 record.
Earlier this week, however, Hellmuth revealed that he has asked for a rematch.
That rematch is set to take place on Wednesday, January 26th at 8 pm EST, and will be broadcast exclusively on PokerGO.
As this is technically the third match of "High Stakes Duel III", each player will be putting up $200,000 of their own money to play, with the winner walking away with it all.
-
If Dwan wins for the second straight time, Hellmuth would have the opportunity to request yet another rematch, though that would require risking another $400,000 if his money.
Can Hellmuth notch a victory over Dwan, or will Dwan take down his second straight against the "Poker Brat"?
