Poker Sites: Time To Step Up Your Site Infrastructure Games
Published on April 24th, 2020 6:05 pm ESTAnother day, another major online poker site outage.
Earlier this week, Pokerstars suffered an embarrassing outage that had people pretty upset. To make matters worse, players reported that it was taking a very long time to receive responses to their questions.
Back in the Isai Scheinberg days at Pokerstars, their customer service was unbelievably good. Now, bad things happen (such as site outages) and many players are left in the dark.
With the 2020 SCOOP set to start in just a couple of days, it seems to be an inevitability that there will be some sort of site outage on Pokerstars over the course of the series.

It's not just Pokerstars that is suffering from site outages.
It's a rare week when one of the major sites (Pokerstars, partypoker, ACR, etc) doesn't experience some sort of multi-hour outage.
This is completely unacceptable in 2020.
These are billion-dollar companies that we are talking about. The Stars Group is worth $7.245 billion. GVC Holdings PLC (parent company of partypoker) is worth billions. ACR has surged in popularity over recent years.
We live in an age of Amazon and Netflix and Youtube and Facebook. These are sites are very rarely ever go down, and if they do, it's only for a very short period of time.

I'm not sure where the issue with the online poker sites lies. Do they not want to invest in their site architecture?
These are sites that are worth billions that makes hundreds of millions of dollars per year. You'd think that site uptime would be of the utmost importance to them.
Things, however, seem to be just getting worse and worse.
We've seen clear indications from Pokerstars that their primary motivation now is extracting as much money as possible from the poker community. As long as they maintain their dominant market share, they probably won't feel it necessary to step up their investments in site architecture.
Constant site outages are completely unforgivable in 2020. The entire industry is damaged when sites go down all the time. It makes the entire industry look amateurish.
Sites really need to step up their games so that this doesn't happen anymore.
