FTOPS logoI understand why Full Tilt Poker runs the FTOPS 4-5 times per year. Money. However, by running the FTOPS so often, they run the risk of cheapening the event, and making it not nearly as notable as the Pokerstars WCOOP. Sure, online poker players will play both events, but which event are they truly more excited for? Undoubtedly the WCOOP.

Pokerstars has done a great job in managing the WCOOP brand. They have resisted the temptation of running it every couple of months, which in my opinion would take the shine off of the event. In my eyes, it would be similar to have the Olympics every six months. Over time, it would cease being a big deal.

The Full Tilt Poker team needs to follow Pokerstars' lead and hold the FTOPS every year (preferably in the summer when many of the younger players are home from school for the summer.) They need to build up the FTOPS and its brand, and they can do this by limiting the event to once per year.
