Kurganov Joins as Member of "Team Pokerstars Pro"

Over the past couple of years, Pokerstars has culled their list of sponsored poker players in favor of bigger names in the sporting world such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, Jr. Earlier this week, however, Pokerstars revealed that they were adding a top name in poker to their roster, as they announced that they were adding Igor Kurganov to their list of "Team Pokerstars Pros". With this signing, Kurganov joins names such as Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Jason Mercier as members of "Team Pokerstars Pro".

Kurganov is certainly one of poker's most talented players, as he currently boasts over $12 million in total lifetime live tournament cashes. This includes a third place finish in the 100k Euro Super High Roller event at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo in 2014 ($1,559,373) and a win in the EPT8 Grand Final 8 Max High Roller event for $1,425,874. Kurganov certainly prefers the High Roller and Super High Roller events and constantly appears at final tables in those events.

The signing is interesting as Kurganov was one of the players who was unhappy with the changes that Pokerstars made to its VIP program a few years ago.
Here is what Kurganov had to say about the signing:
"I'm as active in the game as I've ever been, so l'm excited to work with PokerStars on their future plans. They have undoubtedly been, and will continue to be, the driving force in the poker market and the company that I believe provide the best poker experience for a wide range of players. Additionally, PokerStars are going to be supporting some of our plans with REG this year, which makes me really happy."
Finally, Pokerstars' statement on the signing:
"Igor's mathematical poker mind and passion for giving back to society represent some of the best traits in poker. We're eager to have Igor contribute his talents to our brand and to our business. As an outspoken advocate for online and live poker players, he'll contribute to our products, our policies and our promotion of live and online poker in Russia, Germany and serve as a global ambassador for poker as a member of Team Pro."
