The record for the largest ever WSOP main event field belongs to the 2006 World Series of Poker main event (8,773 players), which was eventually won by Jamie Gold. This was the last WSOP main event to be held before the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006) was passed into law, and it will likely take widespread legalization of online poker in the United States for this record to fall.
