Pokerstars.EU To Service Players From Sweden, Finland
Published on February 13th, 2012 9:45 pm ESTLast week, the world's largest online poker room, Pokerstars, was approved for a Malta Remote Gaming License.
Earlier today, Pokerstars announced that they were launching Pokerstars.EU. Pokerstars.EU will initially service players from Sweden and Finland, with other nations expected to join the fold once shared liquidity becomes more widespread.
The move was a significant one for players in Sweden and Finland. From Pokerstarsblog.com:
"Online poker winnings in Sweden and Finland are tax-free when won in the European Union under a license issued by a member state."
Malta is a member of the European Union, which means that Swedish and Finnish players will not have to pay tax on their Pokerstars' winnings. This is not the case if a site does not have a license that was issued by a EU member state.
While players from Sweden and Finland will now play on Pokerstars.eu, they will still be able to play against the "worldwide Pokerstars player base."
This is obviously a big development for players in Sweden and Finland..
