Total Prize Pool Easily Surpasses $10 Million
Published on December 18th, 2011 3:26 pm ESTWas there ever any doubt?
Pokerstars is holding their 10th Anniversary Sunday Million tournament today, and the turnout so far has been MASSIVE.
As of this second, 51,615 players have turned out for the tournament, which means that the event has a current prize pool of $10.33 million and counting.
When Pokerstars announced this tournament earlier in the fall, there were many that were wondering if the site would be stuck paying for a massive overlay. After all, Pokerstars guaranteed a total prize pool of $10 million (with $2 million guaranteed for the eventual winner), meaning that there would have to be 50,000 entrants in order to avoid an overlay.
Would Pokerstars be able to draw 50,000 entrants into a $215 tournament, especially given the fact that they had to shut their doors to the largest single poker market (United States) earlier this year?
The answer - an emphatic yes.

The turnout for the $10k High-Roller ($10,300 NLHE) also looks to be strong, as 131 players (including the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand Grospellier) have already registered for the event, which gets underway at 15:30 ET.

All in all, another very impressive day for the world's largest online poker site.
