The King is saluting the WCOOP successThe final event of the 2011 WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) got underway on Pokerstars earlier today.

A total of 1,627 players ended up turning out for the event, which ended up creating a total prize pool of $8,135,000. This far exceeded the $5 million guarantee.

The eventual winner of the $5,200 buy-in event will take home $1.46 million, while the runner-up will receive over a million dollars as well. The top 189 spots will pay out, with everyone who makes the final table taking home a minimum of $81,350.

This was the first WCOOP to take place after "Black Friday". Last year's main event ended with a total of 2,443 entrants and a prize pool of $12,215,000, but that main event also had American players. Considering the events of the last few months, a prize pool of over $8 million for a single online poker tournament is ridiculously impressive.

This year's main event winner will be crowned on Monday (or early Tuesday morning), as it is a two-day event.

Some of the notable names who are doing well in the main event so far are "AlusivPnkBny", "pokerjamers" and "H@LLINGGOL".
