Jonathan Duhamel Latest Addition to "Team Pokerstars Pro"
Published on January 11th, 2011 3:15 pm ESTPokerstars announced earlier today that Jonathan Duhamel is now the newest member of "Team Pokerstars Pro".
The 23 year-old Duhamel, who was born in Boucherville, Quebec, thrust himself into the spotlight last year when he took down the 2010 World Series of Poker main event for $8,944,310. Duhamel, who entered the final table with the chip lead, was able to best John Racener during heads-up play to take down the title.
Many people assumed that Jonathan Duhamel was already a member of "Team Pokerstars Pro", but the official announcement wasn't made until today. Duhamel will join players such as Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier as "Team Pokerstars Pro" members.
With the official signing of Duhamel, Pokerstars now has a potent one-two punch when it comes to marketing their site to Canadian players. Canada has two official languages (English and French), and Duhamel is fluent in both. Daniel Negreanu, a fellow Canadian and "Team Pokerstars Pro" member, is already one of the most popular players in the world. The addition of Jonathan Duhamel to the team will just enhance Pokerstars' marketing efforts in Canada.
With this deal, Pokerstars now has five of the last eight World Series of Poker main event winners signed to sponsorship deals (it would have been six of the last eight, but Peter Eastgate retired from poker in 2010).
